Free GST Calculator for India
To add GST, multiply the amount by the rate and add it: ₹1,000 at 18% is ₹1,000 + ₹180 = ₹1,180. To remove GST from an inclusive price, divide by (1 + rate ÷ 100): ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000. In your own state the GST is split equally into CGST and SGST; to another state it is charged as IGST.

How to calculate GST
Four formulas cover every GST calculation on a bill.
Add GST (exclusive price)
GST = Amount × Rate ÷ 100 Total = Amount + GST
Example: ₹1,000 at 18% → GST ₹180 → total ₹1,180
Remove GST (inclusive price)
Amount = Total × 100 ÷ (100 + Rate) GST = Total − Amount
Example: ₹1,180 at 18% → ₹1,000 + GST ₹180
CGST + SGST or IGST
Same state: CGST = SGST = GST ÷ 2 Other state: IGST = GST
Example: ₹180 GST → ₹90 CGST + ₹90 SGST, or ₹180 IGST
Find the GST rate
Rate = (Total − Amount) ÷ Amount × 100
Example: ₹1,000 → ₹1,050 means a 5% rate

Worked examples
- Cotton kurta sold for ₹2,000 + GST in your own state
- 5% (under ₹2,500) → GST ₹100 = ₹50 CGST + ₹50 SGST → customer pays ₹2,100.
- Sherwani priced ₹6,500 + GST, shipped to another state
- 18% (above ₹2,500) → ₹1,170 IGST → invoice total ₹7,670.
- Saree with an MRP of ₹3,150 including GST
- Taken out at 5%, the value is ₹3,000 — above ₹2,500, so the slab is 18%: ₹3,150 ÷ 1.18 = ₹2,669.49 taxable + ₹480.51 GST.
- 25 metres of suiting at ₹320 a metre from a mill
- Fabric is 5% at any price → ₹8,000 + ₹400 GST = ₹8,400.
GST calculator — frequently asked questions
Multiply the amount by the GST rate and divide by 100, then add it to the amount. For ₹1,000 at 18%: 1,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹180 GST, so the total is ₹1,180. In the same state that ₹180 is split into ₹90 CGST and ₹90 SGST; to another state it is ₹180 IGST.
Divide the inclusive price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). For ₹1,180 at 18%: 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 before GST, and the GST is ₹180. Do not simply subtract 18% of ₹1,180 — that gives ₹967.60, which is wrong.
Since 22 September 2025 (GST 2.0) the main slabs are 5% and 18%, with 40% for luxury and sin goods and 0% for exempt essentials. Special rates of 3% apply to gold, silver and jewellery and 0.25% to rough diamonds. The old 12% and 28% slabs were merged into these for almost all goods.
Ready-made garments and made-ups are taxed by sale value per piece: 5% when the value is ₹2,500 or less, and 18% above ₹2,500. Fabrics and yarn are 5% at any price. The threshold applies to the value before GST.
Charge CGST + SGST (half the rate each) when the buyer is in the same state as you, including walk-in customers at your shop. Charge IGST (the full rate) when the buyer is in a different state. In union territories without a legislature, UTGST replaces SGST.
The first two digits of a GSTIN are the state code — 01 is Jammu & Kashmir, 07 Delhi, 24 Gujarat, 27 Maharashtra, 29 Karnataka, 33 Tamil Nadu. If the buyer’s code matches yours, the supply is intra-state. This calculator reads both GSTINs and also checks the 15th character, which is a checksum.
After. A discount shown on the invoice reduces the taxable value, and GST is charged on what remains. In bill mode, enter the discount percentage on each line and the calculator taxes the discounted amount.
The small adjustment, never more than 50 paise, that brings the invoice total to a whole rupee. GST itself is still calculated to the paisa; only the final payable amount is rounded.
It is completely free with no sign-up and no limit. Every calculation runs in your browser — amounts and GSTINs are never sent to a server or stored.
Yes. Pick 12% or 28% under “Old slabs”, or type any rate in the custom box. You need them for invoices, credit notes and returns dated before 22 September 2025.
