Categories

Group products into categories used by the product form, bulk import and reports — add, rename and delete categories, and the ten you start with.

Categories group your products — used by the product form, bulk import and Reports. Open them from Inventory → 🗂 Manage categories (/app/inventory/categories).

Everyone can view categories; adding, renaming and deleting need Manager or above.

The categories you start with#

Every workspace begins with ten: Sarees, Suits & Dress Material, Shawls & Stoles, Fabrics (Unstitched), Menswear, Womenswear, Kidswear, Bedding & Linen, Curtains & Upholstery and Accessories. Rename or delete any you do not need.

Add a category#

Type a name in New category (for example Bridal Lehengas) and click + Add category. Names are 2–80 characters and must be unique. You see Added name.

The list#

Search with Search categories…. Each row shows the Category, how many Products use it, the Created date, and the actions menu.

Rename#

Choose ✎ Rename from the row menu, type the new name and confirm. Products in the category move with it: Renamed to name.

Delete#

Choose 🗑 Delete and confirm Delete the category "name"?. A category that still has products cannot be deleted — you see N products still use name. Move them to another category first.

How categories are used#

Product form — the Category picker on + Add product.
Bulk import — the category column must match an existing category name (capital letters do not matter), or the row is skipped with Unknown category 'name'. Create categories before importing.
Reports — Category performance groups sales by category.

Error messages#

Message	Cause
Give the category a name of at least 2 characters.	The name is too short.
Name must be 2–80 characters.	The name is too short or too long.
A category named 'name' already exists	Use a different name.
